Terms of use
Last updated: 7 November 2026
These terms apply to your use of blueoceanlabs.io (the "website"), published by Thomas Nimmo, trading as Blue Ocean Labs ("we", "us"). Details of the publisher and host are in our legal notice. By using the website you accept these terms.
1. A free resource, not advice
The website, our research library and our digital presenters provide general information about artificial intelligence, security and policy. Nothing on the website is legal, regulatory, security, financial or other professional advice, and you should not rely on it as such. Blue Ocean Labs is currently a free publishing platform: we do not offer paid services, and using the website or emailing us does not create a client or advisory relationship. If you need advice for your situation, consult a qualified professional.
2. Research library
Reference sources. We summarise regulation, standards and guidance from governments and multilateral bodies in our own words and link to the original texts. The originals always prevail. Laws and guidance change, and our summaries may not reflect the latest version; check the original before relying on it. Summaries marked as pending review have not yet been checked against the source by a person.
Our research. Papers written by Blue Ocean Labs are our work. Each paper states the licence under which you may use it. Where no licence is stated, you may read, download and quote it with attribution, including a link to its page in our library.
3. Digital presenters
Elena and our coach avatars are AI-generated digital presenters, designed and governed by Blue Ocean Labs. They only make claims supported by our research library and cite the source when they do. They can still make mistakes. What they say is general information under section 1, not advice.
4. Intellectual property
Unless stated otherwise, the content of the website, including text, design, the Blue Ocean Labs name and logo, and the digital presenters, belongs to Blue Ocean Labs. You may share links to any page and quote short extracts with attribution. Do not reproduce substantial parts of the website, or use our name, logo or presenters, in a way that suggests we endorse you, without our written permission. Content from other organisations remains theirs.
5. Automated access
We want our research to be found and cited. Search engines, AI assistants and other automated tools may access and index the website, including our machine-readable feeds (/papers.json and /llms.txt), provided they do not overload the website, attribute our work accurately and do not misrepresent what our sources say.
6. Links to other websites
We link to other websites for reference. We are not responsible for their content, availability or privacy practices.
7. Availability and liability
We provide the website "as is" and may change, suspend or withdraw it at any time. We take care to keep it accurate and secure, but we do not guarantee that it is complete, current or free of errors. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss arising from your use of, or reliance on, the website. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, or your rights as a consumer.
8. Privacy
How we handle personal data is described in our privacy policy. In short: we do not collect personal information through the website and we do not use cookies.
9. Changes
We may update these terms. The date at the top shows when they were last changed. Continuing to use the website after a change means you accept the updated terms.
10. Governing law
Blue Ocean Labs is not yet incorporated. Until it is, these terms are governed by the law that applies to the publisher, without prejudice to any mandatory rights you have as a consumer in your country of residence. We will name the governing law and courts here once Blue Ocean Labs is incorporated. If you have a concern, please contact us first; we will try to resolve it informally.
